Mission

The project aims at creating and promoting educational and curriculum material that supports the goals of the Foundation. The intent is to provide appropriately licensed material that is accessible by a broad audience including academia, professionals, and the general public. Material supported through this project should directly or indirectly build and strengthen the open source geospatial user and developer communities. This can be accomplished by integrating the use of OSGeo endorsed tools in curricula that teach geospatial concepts and applications as well as the creating curricula to teach skills necessary for people to actively participate in supported OSGeo software and data projects. The committee seeks strong cooperation with academic research projects.

近年来，与商用GIS/RS软件相比，开源空间信息软件(如GRASS、GDAL、MapGuide和MapServer)已具有相当竞争力。开源空间信息基金会(Open Source Geospatial Foundation, 简称OSGeo)是一个全球性非营利性组织,目标是支持全球性的合作,建立和推广高品质的空间信息开源软件。

OSGeo中国中心是由国家遥感中心发起、Autodesk中国有限公司协助，经OSGeo正式授权的非营利性组织。中心依托在国家遥感中心，与OSGeo理事会紧密合作。OSGeo中国中心的使命是支持开源地理信息软件和遥感软件的开发以及推动其更广泛的应用，尤其是帮助中国地区的用户和开发者更好地使用OSGeo基金会提供的源代码、产品及服务。

Purpose

The purpose of the OSGeo incubation process is to ensure that projects that are officially part of OSGeo:

• have a successfully operating open and collaborative development community
• have clear IP oversight of the code base of the project
• adopt the OSGeo principles and operating principles
• are mentored through the incubation process

Purpose

The Incubation Mentor provides advice to a project and brings an independent assessment of the status of the project back to the IncCom. This document provides specific guidance for Mentors.

Role An Incubation Mentor is assigned by the IncCom to each project that is accepted into the OSGeo Incubator.

Project Evaluation Criteria

Purpose

The purpose of this document is to outline the criteria to be used for prioritizing projects for acceptance into the incubation process. The project must fully meet, or be capable of meeting by graduation, the Required Criteria. Projects should meet some or all of the Desirable Criteria. The intention is that the more criteria a project meets, the more likely it will be accepted for incubation.

Code Provenance Review Process

Purpose

The purpose of Code Provenance Review is to establish a reasonable comfort level that an Incubation Project does not have improperly contributed code, and that the code is all under the Project license.

A code provenance review is desirable because it reduces the risk to the foundation, to the project developers and to the software users becoming involved in a legal action or having their use of the software disrupted by sudden removal of improperly contributed code. In particular, many enterprises will not build on open source software projects without some degree of assurance that care is being taken to avoid improper contributions.
